How to Reply to Positive Google Reviews

A thoughtful thank-you recognizes what the customer enjoyed and sounds like it came from the people who run the business.

The short answerThank the reviewer, mention one detail from their feedback, and keep the tone natural. Avoid copying the same response everywhere, adding promotional offers, or stuffing the reply with location and service keywords.

A positive review is an invitation to continue a good conversation. Your reply can show appreciation and reinforce a real detail about the visit. It does not need to be long: a specific sentence or two is often enough.

Google recommends keeping replies professional, relevant, short, conversational, and not promotional. It suggests focusing on reviews where you can add a helpful update or respond to something specific instead of sending the same “thank you” to everyone. See Google’s review-reply tips.

A simple structure

  1. Say thank you. Use the reviewer’s name if it is available and appropriate.
  2. Reflect one detail. Mention the meal, room, appointment, or service they called out.
  3. Close naturally. Let them know you appreciate the visit or look forward to seeing them again, without making a promise you cannot keep.

Examples for local businesses

Restaurant or café

“Thanks for the kind words, Morgan. We’re glad you enjoyed the house-made pasta and had a good evening with us. We’ll pass your note to the kitchen team.”

Hotel or guest accommodation

“Thank you for staying with us, Jordan. We’re happy the team helped make your visit comfortable, and we appreciate you taking the time to share this.”

Salon or service business

“Thanks for choosing us, Taylor. We’re glad the appointment went well and appreciate your kind note about the team. We hope to see you again.”

These are illustrative examples, not real customer reviews. Personalize them only with details that actually appear in the review or that you can confirm.

What to leave out

  • A sales pitch. A review reply is not the place for a discount code or a list of services.
  • Repeated keywords. Natural language helps the reader; repeating a town name or service phrase makes the reply awkward.
  • Private details. Do not confirm booking, payment, health, or other personal information in public.
  • A copied script on every review. Repetition can make a business sound automated. Add a genuine detail when it helps.

Do you need to reply to every positive review?

No fixed script or public thank-you is required for every review. Google’s guidance says to focus on responses where you can share a helpful update or answer a question. A small team can prioritize detailed reviews, questions, and feedback that other customers may find useful. See our guide to deciding which reviews to answer.

Keep the response human

Before posting, read the reply out loud. If it sounds like an advertisement or something copied from a form letter, shorten it and make one detail more specific. Google says replies are public under the business’s name, so write for the reviewer and for the next person comparing local options.

For a more difficult experience, use the steps in our guide to replying to negative reviews.
